What is it to be an Alchemist?
What it is not: spooky stuff
It is not something "witchy,' medieval, scary, or about creating potions in a dark lab.
What it is: an archetype
Archetypes are universal patterns or roles already within you
Archetypes are subconscious patterns passed on through generations and across cultures. Books and movies are filled with archetypal characters. Most archetypes are so familiar to you that you have an intuitive sense of who this person or character is almost immediately. For example: pioneer, child, trickster, hero, villain, advocate, gossip, femme fatal, hermit or fool. Once attuned to the nature of archetypes you can see archetypes in friends, family and even brands.
Archetypes empower
Embracing an archetype empowers you to step beyond what may be a familiar way of engaging with the world and step into new, yet familiar, roles and experiences.
Consciously stepping into archetypes is a way to expand, or change, familiar habits and patterns of action. That's transformation too.
As an Alchemist, you practice.
Practices become habits.
Habits become skills.
New skills transform your life.
Stepping into the role of Alchemist empowers you to naturally transform your life.
You draw on your inner archetypes everyday
You step into many archetypical roles everyday. Often without even being aware of it. For example:
- you may activate a host archetype to facilitate a meeting
- you may activate your student archetype doing research or in yoga class
- your wounded child archetype may be activated unintentionally if a present situation triggers a past emotional experience

Note to your alchemist self:
your practitioner is not in charge of your experience - you are
Yep! Equipped with tools, checklists and information contained in Well-being Stewardship chapters, you learn exactly what to look for in:
- Your choice of practitioner. As a Alchemist, you don't settle for someone with proper credentials. You require someone who is a well-being partner. Someone who is also following the path of Well-being Stewardship. This is what creates a partnership - and that matters.
- Your choice of location. Beyond what street and parking options, you know what ingredients in the office space support your healing and well-being and what detracts. And you cease settling for what is familiar, common or convenient.
- Your choice of processes. Sometimes the most important part of an appointment is either the check-in or payment process. And there are lots of processes in-between too! How things work impacts your well-being. Part of the Alchemy recipe is knowing when to walk away from a potential well-being partner if their processes inhibit cultivating vibrant living.
Your inner Alchemist gains skills and wisdom to know when it is best to walk away and find someone else to be your well-being partner.
